What to do when there is a Oil Spill.
If the worse scenario happens and you have a oil spill at
your place of
work. There are a few things you should do:
• Turn off Oil supply if possible
• Notify Senior Personnel
• In the event of a large Spill obtain help
• Use the nearest Spill Kit
• Cover any open drains with plugs provided
• Cordon off contaminated area
• Wear gloves and coveralls where
clothing and skin contact is likely to occur
• Enclose Oil Spill using Oil Socks or
Booms
• Place Absorbent Mats and/or Cushions
directly on Spill
• Allow time to absorb
• Place contaminated material in a plastic waste bag or bin, seal and
label accordingly
• Dispose of waste in accordance with local authority and environmental
directives
• Thoroughly clean area using suitable
Degreaser or Detergent
to avoid slips
• If no danger of further spills remove
cordon
• Notify Management Spill Kit needs
